When you apply to Illinois there are two things we need from you, The first is your online application and the second is an application fee or fee waiver if you qualify for one. How do I fill out my self-reported academic record (SRAR)? When you apply to Illinois you will not be required to submit a transcript, however; you will have to fill out a Self-Reported Academic Record better known as an SRAR. On your SRAR you will report all the courses you took up to 11th grade along with the grades you earned in those courses. On your SRAR you will also be reporting your senior year schedule. I recommend having a copy of your high school transcript when you fill out your SRAR to accurately report your grades and avoid making any errors. How do I self-report my ACT/SAT scores?  This year you will have the opportunity to self-report your ACT/SAT scores and will not have to pay to have those scores sent to our office. When you self-report your scores make sure that you are reporting your highest composite and highest sub-scores.   At Illinois we will not super score; however, we will only take a look at your highest composite and highest sub-scores that you report. Similar to the SRAR I recommend that you have a copy of your score report to avoid making errors. Finally, let’s talk about how we review. How does Illinois review applications? At Illinois, we use a very holistic process to review applications. At this point, you may be a little confused and asking what a holistic review process is. In short, we review your grades/course rigor, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, and essay. In reality, it is the person or people doing the bullying who need to change, not vice versa. Today’s teenagers are very much into popular culture and keeping up with the latest trends; whether it is clothing, music, or the hair styles. Teenagers are also very susceptible of idolizing celebrities and wanting to be just like them. Young women who watch television shows that feature women with â€Å"curvaceously thin† bodies are likely to accept this as their personal ideal body type (Zuckerman Abraham,  2008). Woinarowicz  (2007),  Ã¢â‚¬Å"Teenagers idolize celebrities and want their perfect bodies but do not always realize that celebrities go through many cosmetic surgeries to look like Barbie and they used to be imperfect just like them. Perfection is costly and risky† (para. 11). Not only does idolizing celebriti es play a factor, but the media does as well. Cosmetic surgery has been the subject of previously on-air television shows such as â€Å"The Swan†, â€Å"Extreme Makeover† and MTV’s documentary â€Å"I Want a Famous Face. Reality shows such as these seem to glamorize cosmetic surgery and give the wrong message to teenagers. â€Å"The media is only making teenagers more self-conscious, than they already are, of their bodies and having them wish for a body that is fake and impossible to obtain without having numerous cosmetic surgeries done† (Woinarowicz,  2007, p. 3). When a teenager considers cosmetic surgery and seeks a consultation with a doctor, the doctor should always take into account the teenager’s mental health state. Cosmetic surgery is certainly not the answer to cure mental health problems. People with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) are obsessed by the idea that some part of their body their hair, nose, skin, hips, whatever is ugly or deformed, when in truth it looks normal† MedicineNet (2003). People who have BDD want cosmetic surgery to fix their imperfections; in reality, they are making their problem worse. Once they correct one â€Å"defect,† they will be fixated on what to correct next (Palkhivala, 2001). Although experts are not sure of the exact cause of BDD, they believe it is linked to problems with serotonin (Nemours,  2010). To treat body dysmorphic disorder properly, a person may need cognitive behavioral therapy or medication (Palkhivala, 2001). Growing up in today’s society, the last thing a teenager should be concerned about is their outward appearance. Scott Mescudi is a hip-hop artist whose music captures the mind of his listeners through his depressed melodic harmonies. As a child he suffered a traumatic incident that led him to become what he is today for better or for worse. His father died when he was eleven years old inspiring him musically and as a person. With Scott’s father dieing he became depressed (Jaliman). He struggled through life dealing with his depression as a kid through when he is an adult. The only way for him to feel an escape from his sadness and lonesomeness was through his artistic ability in creating music. Through that Scott expresses his passions and demons. On his album â€Å"Man on the Moon† and other popular works such as his single â€Å"The Prayer†, Kid Cudi speaks†¦show more content†¦He later was expelled for threatening to punch his principle at Solon but does go on to earn his GED. Him threatening his principal is an inappropriate action and could have been influenc ed by his older brother Dean who was not the best influence. He mother loved Scott and knew knew he was talented in the area of art so she enrolled him in Toledo college where he studied film for a year but dropped out. He moved to New York where he stayed with his uncle Kalil Madi. Scott took the name Kid Cudi and began making mixtapes and making real music when he creates his first hit single â€Å"Day ‘N’ Night† â€Å"Day ‘N’ Night† was created after his uncle passed away and holds a lot of meaning because before Kalil passed away he kicked Scott out of his house despite Scott not having and other living arrangements. Scott was bitter for that but never apologized for his bitterness which he regrets once Kalil dies. Khalil s death inspired Scott (Kid Cudi) to write â€Å"Day ‘N’ Night†.
